"I have traveled a fair amount with my kids and I think a trip to Boston [from DC area] with a 4 month old is very doable. In my experience it is actually much easier to travel with an infant than it is to travel with a toddler or even a preschooler. In June I traveled with my then-6 month old daughter to Rwanda, Kenya and Ethiopia. This was a work trip and I brought her so that she could continue breastfeeding. It took us literally days to get to Kigali (overnight flight to London, day flight to Nairobi, overnight in Nairobi and short day flight to Kigali) but my daughter was a champ.

The great thing about traveling with a small baby is that they usually are content to be held or breastfed, whereas older babies/children tend to have a hard time holding still. Going through security is somewhat of a hassle and they may make you take him/her out of the Baby Bjorn and send the Bjorn through the X-ray machine, but otherwise going to Boston should be a pretty short and straightforward trip. My only advice is to be sure to pack enough diapers and wipes, and to bring an extra change of clothes for the baby and an extra top for you (I learned that last one the hard way after a projectile spit-up incident in the first hour of a flight from Seattle to DC a few years ago!) "We went to San Diego and LA with one child. It helped that we had first-class tickets so we had the extra room. However, I still had to hold her while she slept. That meant I barely slept on the way out there.

We brought her favorite snacks, new toys purchased just for the trip, crayons, coloring book, stuffed animals. We had her dressed in her pjs before we got on the plane.

I could see the looks of dread from the other "business" travelers in our area. At the end, one guy looked at us in surprise and said "she was quiet." "
