Double Stroller: Phil and Ted

"If the e3 had been available when I had my first, I probably wouldn't have bothered with any other stroller. It's got great suspension and maneuverability. The stroller is amazingly maneuverable -- the inflatable tires (not plastic or hard rubber) absorb shock well (important for poorly maintained [city] sidewalks) and the three-wheel setup makes it very easy to steer the stroller with just one hand. The stroller comes with a leash, which I always use because the stroller is so quick I worry it will get away from me on the hills! In the single-kid configuration, you can recline the seat all the way back for an infant or insert a car seat (you can purchase a car seat adaptor).

If you have another baby, you can easily pop on a second seat. I would still have the Snap n' Go for the first 3 or so months since you can't hold a car seat and a second child at the same time, but once the baby can hold his or her head up, this is the best double you can get. Even for those first 3 months, I was able to use the stroller -- the infant lies in the reclined seat and the 2d seat installs on top, bunk-bed style. Since it's essentially a single stroller with an attachment, you don't have to deal with a longer wheel base (which is hard to maneuver) or a wider stroller (which doesn't always fit thru doorways). And if you only need to tote one kid, you just drop the 2d seat and it's a single again. No need to have a fleet of different strollers for different situations. I wish it had been available when my daughter was born -- we wouldn't have needed to buy any other stroller (although, like most other moms here, I had the Snap N Go as well...there's just nothing easier, but we only got 4 months out of it before my son got too long for the infant car seat.)I wanted to recommend this stroller to a friend, but her son is a BIG baby (3 months and over 20 pounds), and I am not sure that the back seat would be suitable for him for long (I think the weight limit for the back is something like 30-45 pounds). My kids are small and light, so I have no complaints on that score. "

"We have an E3 and I love it. I do a ton of walking in the city andit's very easy to steer and very smooth on bumpy sidewalks. I lovethat I can use it as a single or a double depending on how many kidsare going with me. My babysitter uses it all the time for twotoddlers and she also really likes it. It's narrow enough to fit instore aisles and very easy to maneuver in tight spots. It folds upalmost flat. I also have a Bob Revolution jogger and a MacLarenTriumph, but neither one is seeing much use since we brought the E3home.

"Especially if you will occasionally have only one child with you, I recommend the Phil & Ted's E3 -- the double-decker strollers that are now really popular. It's a jogging-style stroller that is very, very easy to handle and fold. The baby rides lying flat or reclining till 4 months or so and then moves to a seat that you attach to the back of the stroller. The drawback is that they're expensive, but worth it."

"Be aware with the E3, your toddler might be able to potentially touch the wheel, being so low. My son is very curious and likes to touch everything, so that pretty much ruled it out for us."

"The other stroller I've heard good things about is the Phil & Ted's E3 which has a second kid attachment at the back ... I opted against it because with the 2nd seat, you have no storage basket. Most of my friends with twins or close in age kids vote against the front/back strollers because you can't get them into doors -- you have to enter butt first because they are too long for you to lean up and open the door and the push the stroller thru."

"Check out Phil & Ted's Explorer (E3). It's a single stroller. It's a double tandem stroller. We love ours!"
